About SWEC

"Owned By Those We Serve"

Southwest Electric Cooperative Inc

Southwest Electric Cooperative is a community-focused organization led by our members.

Founded in 1939 by local people who understood the needs of our rural communities. Today, we work to distribute affordable, reliable, and safe energy to parts of eleven counties in southwest Missouri totaling about 43,000 services. We continue to be led by our members as we belong to the communities we serve. A nine-member board of directors, elected by our members every year at our annual meeting, serves as the foundation of local control.

Missouri's electric cooperatives work together to efficiently deliver affordable, reliable, and safe energy to the rural communities we serve.

Missouri's 3-Tiered System

Electricity is generated through a diverse mix of resources owned and operated by Associated Electric Cooperative based in Springfield, Missouri.

1

2

That electricity is transmitted from AECI's generation resources to substations by two transmission cooperatives, KAMO Power Electric Cooperative based in Vinita, Oklahoma and Sho-Me Power Electric Cooperative based in Marshfield, Missouri, that serve SWEC's system.

3

That electricity is then distributed from the substations to services throughout SWEC's service territory. Southwest Electric Cooperative is a distribution cooperative.
